This could be the biggest and best news regarding food programming on television.
Starting May 5th, Iron Chef Japan is back on the air after a very long hiatus. Now every weeknight at 11pm you can catch Chairman Kaga, the Iron Chefs, and a stream of challengers sweating it out on Fine Living Network.
Don't get me wrong, I do like to watch Iron Chef America, mainly because of Alton Brown's commentary. But there reall is nothing like watching the original overdubbed version of the Japanese classic.
The original Iron Chef is the show that inspired me to up my game in the kitchen and even have a iron chef challenge of my own against my father. It was Battle Pearl Onion ... and I lost.
Here's a little teaser for your viewing pleasure :
The thing that show really had on the American version is it took itself so seriously. When a guy lost he looked like he was going to walk out back and shoot himself.
While you are waiting for Fine Living's schedule to start, or if they don't show the episodes you want to watch, come by the Iron Chef Collection. We have 100 full Iron Chef episodes to download or watch online. We also have a collection of non-episode Iron Chef related videos. We even have a few Japanese language episodes not shown North America. An Iron Chef collection by fans, for fans.
Yea, my wife and I loved the original one. The translations were hilarious! The American version turns me off. I can do without Bobby Flay in any situation. Buddy of mine worded for Scrippts Productions (Who did FoodTV.) Met Flay a few times, he was as much of a jerk as he appears on TV. Paula Dean, however, grabbed my friends butt.
Since winter of 2004, I have been exploring the world of cooking and helping out my fellow men in their quests to better themselves in the kitchen. My name is Adam Byrd, you can learn more about me and my mission on my about page. Connect with me on MySpace, ThisNext, or FoodCandy.
