Happy 3rd Anniversary to Us!
Another year, another batch of good food in the annual bank. Along with that, a few hundred posts here on the blog and there's plenty more in mind. Now that MIA has entered its fourth year of existence, I consider myself an expert food blogger; I've stood the test of time despite lower traffic than other gigantic blogs. This year alone, I've watched a dozen and a half of my regular read blogs die off, including deglazing, a sad sad event. Seems everywhere I looked, bloggers are throwing in the towel.
But that is nothing specific to food blogs. Most never last more than six months. Rest assured, howerver, that MIA will be here for a long time to come.
This is the time of the year where I celebrate the anniversary of the founding of Men in Aprons. Three years ago, I launched this blog as a food diary for myself. Initially, I intended to use it as a tool to explore cooking at home and chronicle my experiences for other dudes to read and use. I never intended this site to take me to places I've been, meet some of the people I've met, and help me cook the food I cook now.
It's been an interesting year. 2007, most of all, was about grilling and barbeque. I had a team compete in two BBQ cookoffs, and somehow I became known to my friends and family as "the oracle." The Oracle is like the great and powerful Oz. He is to be consulted about all matters related to grills, grilling, barbeque, and any type of outdoor cooking. I never thought that I'd take it so seriously; being the Oracle is a great responsibility. I get calls every week from a friend or my father wanting advice on how to grill or BBQ something.
I took a trip back to NYC to take a look at Char-Broil's lineup for 2008. Some of the things they have planned are just plain awesome. I cannot wait to see the "U" in action.
I've learned a lot of food-related stuff as well. I learned how to make bread and how to make gravy properly. I also learned that sometimes if you just ask for help, you'll sometimes get it from the most unlikely of places.
As is my tradition for this annual anniversary post, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who reads Men in Aprons. There are hundreds of you out there, I know. Without you, this wold not be possible, and I probably would have thrown in the towel long ago.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
Here's to a new year, and renewed interest in the desire to better ourselves in the kitchen.

MIA is a daily read for me. It's good to be able to consult The Oracle. I'm not worthy :>)
