Did You Get Cooking-Related Gifts for X-Mas?

Over the last 3 years, a standing rule has developed in our household and extended families when it comes to purchasing gifts:

No cookbooks and no cooking-related items unless specifically requested.

Men in Aprons has been in existence for 3 years now, and since everyone knows that Adam likes to cook, people think that cooking-related items are great gifts. Problem is, I have almost everything I could possibly want in my kitchen, save a few obscure gadgets or super-expensive items. Not only that, but I get so many cookbooks every month, I have them coming out of my ears.

But TheWife and I weren't so stringent when it came to this baby:

We have been waiting for a year to get this bad boy. It's one of those awesome Kitchen Aid mixers like they use on television. Goodbye Sunbeam! Hello heaven! If you look closely, you can see me in that picture twice.

That little hole at the front top of the mixer is where the attachments go. We received a food grinder and sausage stuffer as accompaniments to the mixer, so look out for some homemade sausage pictures and recipes soon.

Take a moment to answer our latest poll (on the homepage) about whether or not you received anything cooking related for X-mas. And then leave a comment to tell us what it is.

Nice mixer! I'm jealous.
One of these days, I'll give in and just get one. :-)

fyi - the url in the hyperlink in your article to go to the homepage is misspelled (broken).

And yes, I also received cooking related items.
*12" tongs
*Alton Brown's "I'm Just Here For the Food: Food + Heat = Cooking"
*Bill Buford's "Heat: An Amateur's Adventures as Kitchen Slave, Line Cook, Pasta-Maker, and Apprentice to a Dante-Quoting Butcher in Tuscany"

And I bought myself some bourbon --for cooking with ;-D

Cool, thanks for the catch, Gabe. Also, cool on AB's book. I'm Just Here has helped me so much in the kitchen.

Hey Adam,
Lovely mixer. I use mine all the time.
My mother-in-law got me two cooking-related gifts: an Aero Garden (so can't wait to plant the seeds), and an electric steamer (good for low-cal, low-fat dinners).
My husband gave me one of Famous Fat Dave's food tours of New York for Chanukah. I blogged about it at http://hereandthere123.blogspot.com/2007/11/famous-fat-dave-takes-us-on-veggie-food.html. If you get to NYC, I highly recommend it. He's a gas.

I scored the Pro 600 model for Christmas (in a hot copper finish) and I couldn't be more pleased. It also came with attachments for grinding meats and making pasta. It was a cook's dream come true.

Nice. Would love to see pictures.

Nice mixer, my wife and I certainly love ours.

I got the following cooking related items for Christmas:

1. Elements of Cooking
2. The Gift of Southern Cooking
3. Wusthof Boning Knife
4. Le Creuset Oval French Oven
5. Egg Seperator
6. Some Plastic Spoons

I asked for 1-4, but will definitely be using 5 & 6 as well.

Welcome to the 'Alpha Male Mixer Owner's Club', Adam. Last year I gave myself a Christmas present of the Viking 7qt mixer.

I'm like you in that I don't want kitchen gadgets gifts. Being a Tool Guy, I am very particular (As you are too, obviously from your choice of mixer). Cookbooks I don't mind. I usually pass around my 'cookbook wish list' sometime in the fall to make it eas on those who want to get me a cookbook.

I am constantly thinning my cookbook collection though. It sounds like you have the same problem. Maybe we could come up with some sort of 'Foodie Blogger Cookbook Exchange Program'

Rochelle

Love your mixer, I got one in August for my birthday (LOVE IT). For Christmas I got the Food Processor to match- it has a mini and full size bowl... I higly recommend it.

One of these days we'll bite the bullet and get one of those bad boys.....Nice score!!! Bring on the sausage making!!!

The Copper Pearl 6 quart Pro from KitchenAid was my numero uno gift request this year. I totally covet your attachments. I want the pasta maker now. I also got some cooking related books and a funky neon orange garlic press. No one buys me cookbooks anymore because I had to start getting rid of some of them (sold a ton on Ebay last year)- I have way more than I can honestly use at this point. I'll have to start giving them away to bribe fellow bloggers maybe?

Andrew Scott

Cheese slicer, French Drip coffee "maker" , and a couple of pearing knives. But we got a new kitchen last summer, along with a new 'fridge, oven, stove, microwave, and dishwasher.

I covet new gas or charcoal grill. Waiting until the spring to splurge on that.
