The Other Thanksgiving MeatNo self-respecting Thanksgiving dinner is complete without Turkey. That is, unless you are allergic to triptophan or something. But rarely do I respect any Thanksgiving dinner that doesn't offer at least one alternative to the bird. It is widely known in my family that I am a ham freak; that sound you just heard was my wife saying "OH GOD! Here we go again." But it is true. Many a Thanksgiving meal is ruined by me grazing on the ham all day long. You might think a coyote had it's way with the ham after I was through with it. Words like double-smoked, honey-glazed, and spiral-sliced are music to my ears. I love spiral slicing. It makes the gathering of leftovers that much easier. Rarely does my mother have to persuade me to take ham leftovers. It's assumed. I may be a ham snob, but that would not stop me from consuming other meats on the holiest of our Nation's food holidays. Beef, pork (other than ham, and other game would be awesome. In fact, sausage is actually a great meat to serve with Turkey, and it goes so well inside certain stuffing recipes. But I'd like to know what your preferences are in alternative Thanksgiving meats. Go to our front page and vote in the poll. It closes tonight. Or just leave a comment and let us know. We'd love to hear from you. |
