Men in Aprons: We've Got Issues

If you are interested in getting a little peek into the background of your beloved publisher (that's me), check out the latest issue of Women's Issues on About.com. I just completed an interview Linda Lowen about getting Men off the couch and into the kitchen on Thanksgiving. It was a fun experience and I'm honored to have been asked to do the interview.

Here's a little excerpt: How do we change the family dynamic and get men involved in Thanksgiving? We asked the Big Byrd - no, not the Sesame Street character but Adam Byrd, a proponent of gender equity in the kitchen and the creator of Men In Aprons. Not only did he give us advice, but he graciously shared the 'method behind the madness' of his own family's Thanksgiving preparations (Spoiler alert: Reading further may cause you to swoon in envy.)

Have you swooned yet? Read the full story here.

Like the interview... my wife and I just set up our kitchen in the new house under some of the same principles. I'm in charge of things on the stovetop she's the master of the oven. So one side of our galley kitchen is set up with baking stuff and the other with stovetop stuff. Works well... check it out here: http://the-house-rules.blogspot.com/2007/11/schmancy-dinner.html

While I think this is a great idea Dave, it still can have moments of frustration as I(we)can attest to from 36+ years of marriage. I have all the baking stuff on the left and the stovetop stuff(like herbs, seasonings, etc. on the right of the stove). Never ceases to amaze me how the stuff becomes intermingled. It just happens. It's like, just 'get the stuff off the counter and put it somewhere'"(uh, that would not be me speaking).

Awesome, Dave. I think that whatever works for you is good. Nice blog, too. Keep it up!
