FOOD NETWORK ASKS: ARE YOU A GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT?

New Primetime Culinary Adventure Series, Premiering Tuesday, July 10th at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, Pits Host Bob Blumer Against the World’s Best.

Best known as “The Surreal Gourmet,” Bob Blumer has never shied away from a challenge. Now Blumer combines his passion for food and his lust for adventure as host of Food Network’s new primetime series, Glutton For Punishment, premiering Tuesday, July 10th at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Part travel show, part epicurean quest, part sporting event, the half-hour series is as entertaining for the impassioned foodie as it is for the armchair adventurer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bob Blumer back onto Food Network,” said Bob Tuschman, Senior Vice President, Programming and Production for Food Network. “He takes on ridiculously entertaining culinary challenges in his new show and our viewers are going to enjoy going along for the ride.”

Fun, fast-paced and full of practical information, viewers will watch as Blumer proves there is no distance too far and no challenge too intimidating for a genuine glutton for punishment. By relying on his knowledge of food and spirits, his physical stamina and his competitive spirit, Blumer attempts to triumph in new culinary arenas: whether he’s oyster shucking at the world shuck-off competition, wielding razor-sharp knives during a Benihana chef crash course or juggling bottles in a national Flair bartending contest, Bob undergoes intensive training as he attempts to face a daunting food or spirits-related challenge.

Upcoming episodes include Bob mastering the skills of a professional waiter in only five days to take part in the annual New York Waiter’s Race, flipping (and dropping) his way through numerous bottles to bartend against the world’s best in the NATIONS International Flair Challenge, getting a crash course in the cutthroat world of professional oyster shucking to hold his own in the Annual Urbanna Oyster Festival and trying to beat the heat that New Mexico has to offer during their world famous chili pepper eating contest.

Culinary adventurer Bob Blumer is a chef and cookbook author. His television credits include hosting the Food Network series The Surreal Gourmet. Bob is the author of four cookbooks, including The Surreal Gourmet: Real Food for Pretend Chefs (Chronicle Books, 1992), which was the first book to recommend “music to cook by”, for each recipe. Bob currently lives in Los Angeles.

OOOH! Yet another reason for me to tune into the Food Network, what will they come up with next? I like how they're going for the more adventure route with their shows lately. It makes food more exciting. I also love watching Food Network Star, do you ever watch that show? I can't wait to see this week's episode with Paula Deen judging comfort food, plus Giada is so on her game as a guest judge. They had an episode with Bon Appetit magazine recently and I also work with them, we have a contest where you can enter to win a trip to NYC to tour the studios or $1000 in All-Clad cookware.
