Review: Pampered Chef BBQ Basting Bottle

Pampered Chef BBQ Basting BottleThis is the BBQ Basting bottle from Pampered Chef. It features a long stem for keeping your hands out of the fire, silicone brush for high-temperature basting, and a flexible bulb to hold your favorite basting liquid.

I can understand where Pampered Chef is coming from on this model. The silicone brush end is a very popular thing in the grilling and barbeque industry. The high-temperature resistance is excellent for no-worry basting. Combine that with the long tapered stem, you can stay far back from the heat while basting.

That's all well and good, but this model has a fatal flaw. That tapered neck ends in a tiny hole for the basting liquid to exit only half as wide as a standard number two pencil. The result is a basting brush that gets clogged with debris or thick liquids such as barbeque sauce.

I tried making a lemon pepper Mop for some chicken breasts I was grilling. It was a great flavor, but the pepper flakes kept clogging up the hole. Then when I squeezed the bottom to force it out, a giant amount squirted onto the chicken and into the grill.

This is a shame, because I thought this model had potential to add value to my grilling tool lineup. Personally, I think you would be wise to stick with a mug and a brush for basting. And BBQ sauce should really be added after cooking. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this bottle brush.

Would you mind posting about what tools are included in your "grilling tool lineup?" I think it would be informative.
