Men in Aprons Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

The first week of the year is when I usually celebrate Men in Aprons' anniversary. I created MIA in the fall of '04, but really didn't start posting entries until the last week of December. We have come a long way since then, including 4 design changes, 3-4 different exterior writing opportunities, a fridge full of hot sauce, a gaggle of product reviews, Senseo, cookbooks, a trip to New York City, advertising, and a mention in Details magazine. Gosh, when I add it all up like that, I feel a bit overwhelmed by what I have accomplished.

At this time a year ago, I didn't have a clear direction that I wanted to take this thing. After a two or three month hiatus in the summer of '05, I only began writing full time in the fall. But now, I do have a direction, and I can tell you what to expect this year from MIA.

This year I will be getting back to the basics. 2006 was the year for me to shed my skin and see what sort of crazy directions I could take in the kitchen. I tried many different things; some failed and some succeeded. But for '07, I want to go back to the point of this whole thing and see if I can come up with a bunch of "basic" recipes. I have already posted the basic chicken frieds steak, and the burger from many moons ago.

Basically speaking, these recipes will be instructionals for you to use as basis for improvisations or to just make as is.

To all of you who have participated in the comments, trackbacks, and What in the Heck? contest, thank you very much. You are the primary reason that I keep doing this. That you for sending your feedback.

2006 was a banner year for the Men in Aprons. Here's hoping that 2007 is even better.
