Nuggets 11/29/06
MIA headquarters is all abuzz with the impending holiday season. Sure, Thanksgiving was last week, but TheWife is usually all atwitter with Christmas and the goodies that will be made. One great thing about the holidays is that the writers at MIA get some good time to sit down and create wonderful content for you, the loyal reader. As publisher, I have always noted an increase in posting during the holiday season. Less work, more writing and cooking.
First up for this edition of Nuggets is MySpace. Men in Aprons has joined the ranks of all the other pimply-faced teenagers out there who troll the internet just waiting to write the dreaded phrase "Thanks for the Add!" OK, admittedly, we have actually written that phrase a number of times on MySpace already (well, at least in graphical form). If you have a MySpace account, add us as your friend, leave us a comment, and tell your other friends: MIA on MySpace.
There is a new blog on the block for your holiday pleasure. The well-fed network has put together a new blog to their food-based lineup, one which we are please to see get started. Get Your Grill On is a new blog that Men in Aprons will be submitting articles to twice a month. GYGO has a full host of writers and a editor to take care of business. The site covers all things related to cooking outdoors, not just over charcoal.
I have yet to comment on the Giada vs. Rachel Ray episdoe of Iron Chef America mainly because it sucked and I think Giada was robbed. She was paired with the worst Iron Chef, Bobby Flay and Rachel got the best ... Mario Batali. Damn, Granted, it wouldn't have been really cool to put two Italian chefs together, but at least Giada could have been paired up with Morimoto or Cora. Food Network Addict has a pictorial recap of the episode. I'm calling for a rematch. Incidentally, I'm a Food Network Addict Addict.
One web site that I read every day in my RSS reader is I Ate a Pie. I have neglected talking about this site, mostly because of my forgetfulness. When you read a blog on a daily basis in your feed catcher, sometimes you take it for granted. I Ate a Pie is a health food and diet food review site. It covers a wide gamut of grocery items from Lean Cuisine to Yogurt to VItamin Water. I was intrigued last week as I read a review of one of my favorite yogurt products: Yo! Crunch. I love the one with the tiny chocolate crunch balls.
Last and certainly not least, a food blogger out there is doing wonderful things with the web and video. I've been secretly lurking at her site for a few months now, and am pleasanly impressed every time there is a new post. Introducing Start Cooking.com. This was originally born of a blog and has grown to a full service web site as well as YouTube video tutorials. Kathy Maister includes step by step instructions for basic recipes including photos at each step. This is where the future lies in food publishing on the web.
Have a great weekend everyone. Give us a shout on MySpace. We'd love to see who else has ventured to that realm.
