Mexican Turkey Burger with Salsa

The recipe comes from The Ultimate New York Diet book by David Kirsch. His recipe was set to be for a single turkey burger. I'm not sure who cooks like that, but I have a family. When I cook, I cook for at least two and maybe more. Also, with the Turkey Burger being an acceptable snack on phase 1 of the diet, I'm still not understanding why he didn't make the recipe large enough for at least 4 burgers. I have adjusted this recipe for four burgers, trying to keep the sodium level down, yet retain the flavor.

Things to remember: Ground turkey does come in differing varieties of lean. I chose a fairly lean version since this recipe is for a diet recipe. I did not, however, go with all breast meat. I had a funny feeling that 100% breast meat burgers would burn up on the grill. This turkey was a mixture of white and dark, which is nice since dark meat has more flavor.

- 1 pound lean ground turkey
- 1/2 cup minced white onion
- 1/2 jalapeno pepper, stemmed, seeded, and minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 TBSP chili powder

Mix all ingredients well. Form into 4 patties. Grill 3-5 minutes per side or until done. Top with your favorite fresh (not canned) salsa or pico de gallo. And remember ... NO BUNS! YOU'RE ON A DIET! Serve with a side of fresh salad greens.
