Nuggets, TX-OU Weekend Edition
First and foremost ... Hook 'Em Horns! Bet the hell outta OU! Should be a good game today, one in which I am dearly looking forward to watching. Not just for the pageantry of college football, but because I get to make chili today. I will be making a big bowl of red, as outlined in my article on Cooking For US.
Need an apron? Perhaps your man needs an apron? Michelle over at Need Aprons.com has a special going on right now. She's offering a "men in aprons" edition apron. It's a navy blue long bib aprons with "Men in Aprons" embroidered in the center. It is a polyester/cotton blend apron and has three pockets. Check it out and give your man a gift this christmas.
The film Barbecue: A Texas Love Story has been around for a while, but I thought it fitting right now. The film is narrarated by the late Ann Richards, former Governor of Texas. She passed away a couple of weeks ago, and will surely be missed. The barbecue move takes us on a tour of barbecue joints in Texas and explores Texans' love and culture of barbeque.
All you Senseo lovers out there should know that Senseo and Douwe Egberts have released a new coffee pod into the market. Introducing the Sumatra Blend Senseo Coffee pod. The wife and I thought it was pretty good. Definitely better than the Hazelnut, but it tasted just the same as the Dark Roast. I might reserve judgement on Senseo until I see something else, but I think the limit to the flavors that can be achieved in coffee pods may have been reached.
TVFood Fan reports that Christopher Kimball of America's Test Kitchen is getting into the health food crusader business. I suppose that's par for the course, as the entire point of Kimball and his show is to point out to America exactly what we are doing wrong and tell us how to do it right. I know that sounds like a pessimistic view, but I just got tired of being beaten over the head with his narrow viewpoints.
TVFF says: In the end, Kimball realizes that it’s more about changing attitudes and behaviors, and draws upon his experience with the magazine and show to point out that, if adults can start cooking at home, kids can also learn how to eat a more nutritious diet.
That may be what Kimball thinks, but it isn't that simple. The attitudes of the people invested in buying the contracts for school lunches need to be changed. It has been proven that school lunches can be made from normal fresh ingredients as opposed to the giant boxes of frozen slop that is provided by companies like Sodhexo. The people who make the decisions need to start caring about the children that attend their schools.
Have a great weekend everyone! Hook 'Em Horns!
