Cuisinart Slicer Attachment

Cuisinart Prep 11 PlusThis is not about the Cuisinart Prep Plus, rather the slicer attachement that I love so much, and why you should really try out all the attachements on your gadgets. Oh great! As I'm thinking out what I"m about to write, I realize that I'm very close to sounding like an infomercial in which I will ask for 5 low payments of $19.95 at the end.

The Cuisinart Prep Plus (aff) is one of my favorite kitchen appliances, other than the deep freeze. It has so many uses and has been through so much of our food. I consider it a member of the family. While the blade attachement is the most commonly used of all the attachments, I really like to use the slicer.

Believe it or not, TheWife and I actually watched the instructional video tape that came with the Cuisinart. It was more like propaganda, but we actually saw some very interesting things. One of the best was how the slicer attachment can cut almost anything into perfect little slices. We most often use the slicer to slice potatoes. It's really simple. Just cut a regular potato in half, then push it down through the chute with the pusher, and the slicer does all the work. I used it when making Potatoes Au Gratin.

The Cuisinart slicer attachment has a very clever design. Unlike the double-blade, which cuts from the bottom of the container, the slicer cuts at the top, leaving room in the bottom of the container for the slices to fall. Cut carrots, potatoes, onions, or yams. Anything that needs slicing. It saves you loads of time by keeping that chef's knife out of your hands, and makes perfect 1/8 inch thick slices.

All of this made me think about how we get these gadgets and toys and we use them for their primary purpose, but we sometimes fail to try out all the options. We forget the extras and focus on the steak and potatoes while the optional gear is just waiting to be used. Sometimes the optional gear can improve the use of the gadget, making it that much more versatile.

Now, if I can only figure out how to use the dough attachment ...

Hey Yeah!! I have a processor that has a feeder shoot, so when it slices it will feed the slices into a bowl....is delightful...
