Chocolate Slab Cake with Dark Chocolate Frosting

Chocolate Slab Cake

See this cake? Looks good, doesn't it? A shiny layer of chocolat frosting on top of a lusciously thick chocolate cake. Makes you drool, doesn't it? Looks so ooey-gooey delicious, don't it?

Well, I'm here to tell you that it was so-so. I've been doing a lot of cooking from this cookbook called Baking. There's no website for the book or anything that I can point you to on the web. The scone recipes I've been making come from this book, as does that awesome Lemon Syrup Cake. This particular chocolate cake was not all that great.

The frosting is great. It's made of dark chocolate. Unfortunately, it's the only good part of the cake. The actual cake of the cake was bland and rather tasteless. It didn't have nearly enough sugar, and it could have used more chocolate.

So there you go. Another in the list of food that looks good when cooked, but it's not all that great in the mouth.

Responses to "Chocolate Slab Cake with Dark Chocolate Frosting" ...

Chocolate cake is one of those things that, to me, gets overdone. I am all about simple, sublime, double layer chocolate cake with nothing added, served with a glass of cold, cold milk! So many bakers want to make it fancy... Some things aren't meant to be fancy, just good!

Well, they can't all be good. The frosting is the best part though. I'm waiting for somebody to make a "frosting cake". A 3 inch layer of frosting with a quarter inch layer of cake on top. ;-)
