Who Cooks in Your Household?I feel like I've talked about this subject many times before. I wrote about a similar subject for one of my articles at Cooking for US. When I was growing up, my parents pretty much shared the cooking duties. Part of that was due to my mother's health, but I can remember being cooked for by both parents from a very young age. Now, if you take TheWife's family, the primary cook is the women on both sides. All this is not to say that it is wrong or right. Sometimes it just is what it is. Every family or household has a different dynamic. This week's poll was very well received and the answers were nearly even across the board with "sharing the duties" being the winner at 38% of the voters. In second place is a tie between men and women and "eat out " was last place at only 6%.
As you know, I am a very big proponent of men cooking. I always support it, despite the age, religion, race, or sexual orientation of the guy. However, a bigger attitude in my head is for married couples to share the duties equally. Not only is it a more modern way of thinking, it teaches kids about equality, sharing, and responsibility just by example. Besides, each person has foods that he or she can cook better than the other. For instance, my wife is the superior baker, but I can school her anyday outside on the grill. We each bring certain abilitities to the kitchen to form a more perfect cooking union. The new poll is about your preference for grilling fuel. To keep it concise, I'll just cover direct grilling. BBQ is a whole different monster. So, let me know what you griling fuel preference is: charcoal, gas, both, or neither. |
