Prize-Winning Chili

Award-Winning Chili

MIA reader/listener Curt, sent me a link to his flickr site where he has a picture set of the cooking of he and his brother Los' championship chili. I had orginally planned on posting this because it was a cool deal, men cooking, and because Curt is a all around good guy. But upon looking at the picture set, I found out that they did their produce shopping at the Dallas Farmer's Market.

When I was a kid, my mom used to take us to the Dallas Farmer's Market once a week during summer vacation. While a kid doesn't usually care about things like that, I can remember being subconsciously awed by the amount of produce there.

What I know now is that you should always try to use fresh ingredients if possible, and the farmer's market is one of the best ways to get great tasting, fresh produce. You get good food and you help support local farmers and growers, not corporate fat cats.

Please notice while you're viewing the pictures how many peppers Los uses in the chili. I've tried to keep this site and my podcast as G-rated or PG-rated as possible. but sometimes you just have to say .... HOLY SHIT! ....
