Pigtail Food Flipper

Normally, I don't advocate the piercing of meat when grilling. But in the case of this cool gadget, I can make an exception. Ever since I received the pigtail food flipper as a birthday present a few years ago, I can't help but wonder where it was all my life. When I grill steaks, chops, and chicken, I usually use large tongs to flip the meat. Sometimes, though, using tongs can disturb the edges of the meat or even force juice out. When I'm doing heavy rubs or babeque mops, I don't like to use tongs, because it tends to scrap off that layer of goodness thatI worked so hard to put on.

In comes the pigtail food-flipper. A wooden handle attached to a long, stainless steel rod is capped off at the tip by a sharp, curled tip. You poke the meat with the tip, then flip in one fluid motioni. Hardly anything is disturbed.

It's not a new technology. BBQ pit masters have been using devices like this for years. it's great for flipping large briskets or long racks of ribs. At home, we like to use it in the iron skillet when flipping bacon or anything else that is slippery.
