Drink Terminology: Sex on the Brain

Tags:

There are a million different alcholic mixed drinks out there. Each one of them can be made slightly different, and most have very weird names. Since alcohol is often equated with sex, many drinks have sexual names. For instance, A blow job shot has Bailey's Irish Creme and Amaretto liqueur.

If you are a bartender, then you know what to think of when you hear a drink's name with some sort of sexual innuendo. Srewdriver, Sex on the Beach, Harvey Wallbanger, or drinks with the words naked or passion. You think of Vodka. Sure, the blow job shot is an exception, but on the whole most sexy-named drinks involve vodka.

Who knows why this is? But Vodka is a common ingredient in most sexualized drink names. Perhaps this is because Vodka is generally flavorless which makes it easier to get a people drunk and horny. It's one of the great mixology mysteries.
