Q'ing with Johnny has the 7 commandments of grilling.

Thou Shalt Not Leave The Grill Unattended!
When you put somethin' on the"Q" check it OFTEN! Don't go inside and make the salad and visit with the guests unless you want overcooked, dried out, burnt food! Treat every BBQ'in session as if it were your last... (God Forbid).

Thou Shalt Not Rush!
Patience and timing are what makea great cook and when it comes to "BBQ", "slow" is the key!

Thou Shalt Not Harm Thy Children!
Keep the little one's away fromthe BBQ'in area. A grill can get very very hot and burn them.

Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbors Equipment!
If you like to "Q"a lot, then make sure you have plenty of coals, wood, kindling and utensils onhand. No one likes to cut lose with their BBQ equipment.

Thou Shalt Not Think Of Thyself Only!
Hey, when that wonderful smell floats through the neighborhood, expect some of the neighbors to get rrrrrreal neighborly. Invite them over to share your masterpiece(s). There is nothing better than sharing great food (BBQ) with your friends and neighbors.

Thou Shalt Not Cook Too Little!
If there are no leftovers, then you didn't cook enough! Always cook some extra for tomorrow, or in my case, later that night.

Thou Shalt Not BBQ Only In Summer!
In the dead of winter, if it's not snowing or raining that day, a BBQ will bring back those memories of summertime. And I don't know about you, but I can't go more than a couple days without somethin' "Q'ed"!

He really should have included the 8th commandment: "Q'd" is the lamest phrase ever invented for a Barbeque nickname. Get a creative director.

Responses to "Grilling Commandments" ...

Thou shalt know the difference between "grilling" and "barbecue".

Grilling takes minutes...Barbecue takes hours.

And those that know the difference shall rule the earth.

I'm eagerly anticipating the promised treatise on smoking since all you've covered here seems to be grilling. ;)
