Benefits of a Silicone Spatula

Sometimes your plastic or rubber spatula just won't cut it. Problem with plastic and rubber is that they melt at a relatively low temperature. Have you ever left your plastic spatula sitting on the edge of a hot pan for a little too long, and later you notices a couple of nice pan-shaped indentations in the spatula? Yeah, me too. But you can avoid this by purchasing a silicone spatula. Why silicone? Because silicone has a very high heat resistance. It's melting point is upwards of 500 degrees Fahrenheit, which means you can rest easy if you leave it on the edge of the skillet. Also, it means you can relax when stirring superhot substances like caramel or liquids straight out of the oven. Also, you don't have to worry if you accidentally touch it to a burner or the inside of a broiling hot oven. Another great thing about silicone is that it won't damage other cookware like teflon or anodized non-stick finishes. It's pliable, but durable. And it's dishwasher safe. |
