What in the Heck? Episode 2
Posted on October 18, 2005 by adam
Category: What The Heck?
[editor's note: I've placed this back up at the top because no one has answered correctly. We have decided that it is a thermometer ... but for what?] Now it is time for our second installment of "What in the Heck?" As always, the first person to get the right answer is therefore deemed the winner. I don't actually have anything to give out, so you just get the respect and admiration of your peers. It's black and silver. It's pointy and blunt at the same time. Maybe it's some sort of stabbing device. What in the heck could it possibly be? P.S. - TheWife is forbidden to answer. VERBOTEN! WE HAVE A WINNER! Tom Oakes has answered correctly. It is a wine thermometer. And incidentally, no one ever said you couldn't search the web for your answer. Comments

No, it's not a rear-end thermometer. (P.S. - I know where you work.)

It's either an oil or candy thermometer, that hooks nicely on the side of a saucepan. It could (like most things) also function as a stabbing device.

Ummm ... no. As stated in the post, we've established that it is a thermometer. The question is ... what kind. Remember, this site is food related.

I'd think it has to be a liquid thermometer of some type, due to the lack of point on the "shaft". It looks like it might be designed to fit onto a bottle or specialized container. I have no idea.

It's a wine thermometer. I found it on the web, but in all fairness, I did search for "wine thermometer". This contraption can be yours for only 12 pounds/euros/whatever they're on now:

I'm assuming it's not of the medical variety so...
Either a temperature gauge of some sort or a portable mixer/blender?
Can I get one at Brookstone? lol
