Routine Web Pimping
Posted on February 10, 2005 by adam
Category: The Web Time for us to do some quick web site pimping. Since conceiving the idea for Men In Aprons, I noticed that the web is not the wealth of cooking knowledge that it should be. At least on the surface, it seems that way. To find really good stuff you really have to dig deep. Sure, Food Network is OK, but it seems like all that web site cares about is plugging its programs. Cooking.com is pretty much a complete waste of bandwidth. It's too hard to get to the content through all the advertisements. Recently, we are finding that cooks, wanna-be cooks, regular dudes, or amateure reviewers are taking to the blogging world to offer their own take on food topics. You still have to dig a little to find some honest, real material, but the niche is growing. A few years ago, I was offered a place among the home cooks of de.liscious.net. As the site states, "This is the story (the true story) of some people picked to write in a blog and have their recipes cooked by strangers on the internet." If anything, de.liscious is a recipe swap on the web with a little bit of snark added. One of my favorite drinking blogs is Brew Reviews. This ain't for Miller drinkers. This is serious beer and honest reviews. You may also want to try Oklahoma Wine News or Cigar Intelligence Agency. All good stuff. All in-depth. For other, more concentrated, yet very well done sites, try Pho King, Asian Vegan, or my favorite Texas Burger Guy. Comments
